Recently I had the pleasure of working on a rock 'n roll inspired shoot with up and coming modeling talent, Emily Catherine! Let me tell you, if you are a photographer or other industry artist, and you get the opportunity to work with Emily... DO IT! This chick is awesome! She's driven, she's fun, she takes great direction and she's not shy! Which, surprisingly enough, a lot of models are, which sometimes makes it difficult to get them to convey the look you're going for. NOT an issue with Emily!
For that matter, if you're NOT a photographer or other industry artist, check out her Facebook page anyway, check our her other work, click 'like' on her page, and leave her some love!
So the idea for this session came about thanks to Ebay! I was actually in the midsts of shopping for the wardrobe I did with Amy Keyser when, randomly this dressed appeared in my window under "other items you may like", or whatever that section of the Ebay page is called. The second I saw it, I thought to myself, "That would be AWESOME for a rock style inspired shoot!
I messaged Emily.
After Emily expressed excitement in working with me on this shoot, I OF COURSE messaged Shawnnah of Notorious B.eau.ty! This wonderful woman is the same fantastic hair and makeup artist that I collaborated with on Amy's shoot! I was so excited to be able to collaborate with her again. Shawnnah is not only great at her craft, but she's an amazing person to be around and I always enjoy our pre-shoot banter while she works on the model!
Halloween is around the corner and I recall Shwannah saying something about having a special on Halloween makeup, for those of you who are less artistically inclined and would like some expert help on your killer [no pun intended] look! SHOOT THIS GIRL A MESSAGE... Do it. Go HERE, click 'like', and send her a message to set up your appointment!
After Shawnnah enthusiastically agreed to our developing project, I continued to shop for more pieces of Emily's outfit. One of the pieces I found, was an awesome cropped jacket that I found at The Attic, in Bethlehem, Pa! This place is the hippest consignment shop I know of in the area! If you live around Bethlehem, and are looking for some cool pieces for your every day look, definitely stop by and check it out!
At this point I'll also take the opportunity to give a shout out to my friend, April Piazza who is the author of the Steel City Retro segment of the retro-inspired blog Wink Pinup. April writes about the great places in the valley, like The Attic, that you can find awesome retro pieces for affordable prices! So if that's your thing, stop by and check out the blog!
So anyway, the day that Emily's dress ACTUALLY arrived... I made a very interesting discovery, in that the dress was actually two pieces... and the *skirt*... was actually MUCH shorter than I was expecting. Right away I set out to the fabric store in search of more tulle, which I attached with my mad hand-sewing skills to her skirt to make it a bit longer and fill it out a bit more.
I'd be lying if I said that I didn't have any help, as the wonderful Shawnnah definitely helped me fringe out the newly added layers, the day of the shoot. (THAT is just ONE of the many reasons why I love her!)
Once the skirt was filled out and cut up, it was time to shoot!
This is just one of the awesome images that Emily, Shawnnah and I were able to create together! There are definitely more to come, but I couldn't help showing at least *one*!
